Featured Books
"I loved it! Any person who can remember being a teenage girl who doesn’t get along with her mom will. It was a wonderful story and I’m going to hand sell it here to as many as I can. It’s for historical fiction fans as well as fans of women’s struggles."
~Heather Pine, Free Library of Northampton Township, Richboro, PA
“This Librarian thought Dewey was the Cat's Meow! There are few books that are as memorable; Dewey the small town library cat will be one of those books that will be etched in my memory for a lifetime.”
~ Jennifer Teitelbaum, San Diego County Library, CA
Reviews and Accolades
Best Business Books
When Library Journal released their list of the Best Business Books for 2007, we were thrilled to have four titles on the list:
From Little, Brown, Taylor Clark’s look at Starbucks, Starbucked: A Double Tall Tale of Caffeine, Commerce, and Culture was named a best Business/Corporate History title.
Twelve brought us Microtrends: The Small Forces Behind Tomorrow’s Big Changes by Mark J. Penn with E. Kinney Zalesne, which was honored as a Best Book in the Economics: Theories, Ideas, Trends category.
Business Plus (formerly Warner Buisness) hit the Women and Business list with Carol Fishman Cohen & Vivian Steir Rabin’s look at women in the workplace with Back on the Career Track: A Guide for Stay-at-Home Moms Who Want To Return to Work. Business Plus also received a nod with Marci Alboher’s Work Success/Performance title One Person/Multiple Careers: How the “Slash Effect” Can Work for You.
The New York Public Library Best Books for the Teen Age
The New York Public Library compiles an annual list of Best Books for the Teen Age which is used by librarians nationwide. The 2008 list included Felicia “Snoop” Pearson’s moving memoir Grace After Midnight in the "Phenomenal Lives" category. In a straightforward style, the author shares her journey from crack-baby, through a troubled childhood, to the serendipitous way she landed a role on HBO’s The Wire. Kirkus Reviews called it, “A hard-luck tale that never asks for pity.”

Hispanic Heritage Month
Beginning on September 15th, Hispanic Heritage Month acknowledges the Independence Days of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, and Chile. It’s a terrific time to recognize the contributions Hispanics have made to everything from politics to science to the fine arts—and of course, to literature. If you’re planning a display, don’t forget to include Bless Me Ultima, The Hummingbird's Daughter, and the recently released Dream in Color.
